SHEEP – DEPARTMENT F (Open) & DEPARTMENT H-3 (Junior)

DEPARTMENT F – OPEN

Superintendents: Robert Hammann, Keith Bowman, Jack Price, and Amy Lancaster.

 ENTRY FEE $5—-PEN RENT: $3 PER HEAD—- ESTIMATED AMOUNT OFFERED $5,328

Entry Fees Must Be Collected for all entries when entry blanks are submitted—per the Department of Agriculture.

Premiums will be paid contingent upon the State of Illinois having their premium fund reimbursement program in effect at the time of our fair.

Entry forms must be postmarked no later than June 29, 2016, Walk-in entry forms no later than July 1, 2016.  No late entries accepted. 

SHEEP SHOW DAY—-Wednesday, JULY 6, 8:00am

PREMUIM CHECKS WILL NOT BE ISSUED WITHOUT EXHIBITOR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER, NO EXCEPTIONS.  REGISTATION PAPERS REQUIRED ON ALL PUREBRED LIVESTOCK AND MUST BE IN EXHIBITORS NAME. (See General rules).

Specific Department rules:

  • Pens will be assigned by superintendent.
  • There will be NO mark-up on any class or money will not be paid.
  • Lambs shown in Market Lamb Classes must be market lambs.  They cannot be shown in breeding classes and must be wether or ewe lamb.
  • The Fair reserves the right to combine classes if there is only one exhibitor in a class
  • All individual animals must be identified with either a tattoo or tag of Scrapie Program
  • All wire, cans, bottles, and garbage shall be placed in containers.  All show boxes, feed, and cots to be kept in area of individual stalls and out of show ring.
  • All sheep to be on grounds by 8 p.m. Tuesday, released 6 p.m. Thursday, must be out of barn by noon Friday.

Age Definitions:

  • Yearling Ram/Sr. Ram Lamb, After September 1 to December 31, but less than 2 years
  • Jr. Ram Lamb, January 1 and after
  • Ewe, 1 year and under 2 years
  • Sr. Ewe Lamb September 1 to January 30
  • Jr. Ewe Lamb 2-16 and after

Market lambs will show by breed as soon as the 4-H show is completed and before the breeding sheep.                 

AOB: Shropshire, Montadale, Corriedale, Rambouilet, Natural Colored, Suffolk

AOB Exotic: Border Leichester, Tunis, Cotswolds, Lincoln, Romneys

Exhibitors that have a breed other than a listed breed should call a superintendent to determine which AOB class to enter.

Department H-3 – JUNIOR

  • No pen rent due if exhibitor has paid pen rent in open class for each animal.
  • Show limited to juniors form Illinois Counties where Macoupin County Juniors are eligible to show
  • Herdsman Award Sheep Barn: $10.00 cash awarded given by Macoupin County Fair. Judging based principally on neatness and appearance of stalls or pens, also on timeliness of getting livestock in show ring and presenting livestock.
